“A chance meeting with Chair and Founder, Phyllis Hutchison in Rouken Glen Park, Glasgow sowed the seeds of my involvement in Four Steps to Freedom.

I was struck by the passion and determination Phyllis and her team had for improving not only animal welfare in Tanzania through education including rabies and neutering campaigns but how this in turn saves and improves the lives of the people who live there.

Having worked in the 3rd sector for many years I know firsthand the many challenges charities face, so given the fact that the charity has no paid staff and relies solely on volunteers, what has been achieved so far is nothing short of remarkable.

I'm honoured to be part of a charity and team whose ambitions are high but have their roots and values firmly committed to eradicating rabies in Tanzania which in turn has a positive ripple effect of improving animal welfare and reducing human fatalities"

Marlene enjoyed a career of over 20 years in the Civil Service before moving into the 3rd sector. She then ran an addiction charity for just over 10 years which involved supporting families and tirelessly campaigning to have their voices heard and acknowledged. Working in partnership with a variety of agencies such as Social work, the NHS, Police Scotland etc.

In her spare time Marlene enjoys long walks with her much loved Springer Spaniel, Cookie, yoga, socialising and spending time with her family.
