“I have volunteered with other charities before, and the Mbwa Wa Africa Animal Rescue team and experience is second to none.”
- Susan Cunningham, Veterinary Surgeon, Northern Ireland
If you would like to share your skills and enjoy the international volunteering experience of a lifetime in Tanzania, or if you’d like to volunteer your skills from the comfort of your own home or workplace, we’d love to hear from you. Since 2015, we have hosted over 200 international volunteers in Tanzania, each of them playing a vital role in helping wipe out rabies and drive lasting change.
Whether you can spare a week, a fortnight, a month or more, we’d love to hear from you. Typical volunteer roles are noted below; if you have other ideas in terms of the skills you’d like to share, please get in touch:
Veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses, to directly support our vaccination, spay and neuter campaigns and train local vets in small animal surgery skills
Educators, coaches and community partners, to work in local schools teaching children about rabies risks and humane animal handling
General animal handling support
Administrative support, either in Tanzania or remotely
Communications services, including marketing, website development, social media and more

Play the Four Steps to Freedom lottery for your chance to win £100.00 in our monthly draw!
It costs £5 per month, per number, to take part and you can have as many numbers as you wish. It’s a fun way to support our vital work.
How does it work?
You’ll get your own personal number(s) when you sign up, and those numbers will be yours for as long as you continue to play.
Each month, you’ll be charged £5 per number.
At the end of each month, a winner is selected by a random generator. The winning number will be announced on our social media accounts, and we will promptly initiate a bank transfer to the winning player. There's no need for you to reach out to us to claim your prize if you win; just relax, and the funds will be transferred directly to your bank account!
Monthly lottery open to UK residents only.

Dogs, cats, even a goat: our permanent residents enjoy safe and comfortable lives at The Gongo Centre, thanks to the generosity of their sponsors around the world.
When you sponsor an animal in our care for £25/month, you’ll receive a sponsorship pack and updates on his or her life in Tanzania.
Get to know our animals in their individual fact-files below:
Set up your sponsorship on our Donate Now page: choose the £25 monthly donation, and add a comment to tell us who you would like to sponsor.

As we continue to develop The Gongo Centre, we are seeking donations of veterinary supplies and equipment to help us help more animals, faster.
We also have a limited number of opportunities to sponsor individual kennels, buildings or other facilities: a beautiful way to commemorate a beloved pet or loved one.
When you sponsor a facility or donate equpment for The Gongo Centre, a personalised photo-plaque will commemorate your gift, forever.

Make a lasting difference: support our work to wipe out rabies in Tanzania by leaving a gift in your will.
1500 people die every year from rabies in Tanzania, whilst countless thousands of animals die in pain as a result of amateur dog culls that do nothing to curb the spread of the disease.
By leaving a legacy gift in your will to Four Steps to Freedom, you can help us to build a new future for the people and animals of Tanzania, free from the fear and suffering of rabies.
